SQL Server Consulting - FAQs

How Long do free consultations last?

Free initial consultations typically last 30 - 60 minutes. For bigger projects, this is usually enough time to discuss your current needs, talk through some high level options, and decide a potential course of action.

For smaller issues, this is usually enough time to help point you in the right direction, give you some insights into what might be going on, and help outline ideas for next steps, overall solution options, etc.

Free Consultations? What's the Catch?

There's no catch. Free consultations give me a chance to see if I can meet your needs, and they give you the chance to see how I work - with no commitments or obligations.

What if you solve my problem during a free consultation?

When I solve your problem during a free consultation, you're more likely to recommend me to your peers or call me back when you have tougher problems.

Does this free consultation just get rolled into the first bill?

Nope. Initial consultations are free. There are no gimmicks.

How does a typical engagement usually work?

I like to joke that "I'm coin-operated" - meaning that I'm more than happy to help you as much - or as little - as you desire. In short, engagements are primarily what you want them to be; I can help you a bunch over a few days or weeks, a little bit here and there, or be the 'ace up your sleeve' for when you run into problems or have questions.

I'm also happy to monitor and manage your SQL Server systems as well - i.e., whatever makes the most sense to you.

In short, feel free to set up a no-risk consultation to see how I can help you and how we can set things up to best meet your needs.

Are you a consultant or a contractor?

I'm happy to work as either a Contractor or as a Consultant - by my preference is to work as a Consultant, where I guide you to a solution to your own solution (vs solving problems for you).
